Why does my Nissan Maxima go to higher RPM when I shift to 4th gear?

My 1998 nissan maxima was doing good. I’ve been shifting at 3000-3500 rpm between shifts. Just today, i shift from 3rd to 4th at about 3k rpm and all of a sudden the rpms hit about 5000 to 6000. What could be the problem? This has been happening and I do not go pass 3rd gear now. What can i do?

      The gears at all so be weekend if so after some time you wont be curious and check it might be curious and check it might be curious and check it might be abale to change the gears at all so after some time you should check it.
