what would cause a 1992 Nissan Maxima to not fire at cylinders?

I installed an engine in a nissan altima.I have been unable to get”fire” from the distributor.Bench test confirm distributor is good.The coil is another matter-it hasnt been tested yet.Can someone help plz.
