What can I do for a slipping transmission on a 2000 nissan maxima?

I have a 2000 nissan maxima and I do not have the money right now to replace anything really expensive but its starting to slip and when I try to step on it, it doesn’t have a lot of power and sometimes it doesn’t go into gear at all it just buckles and shakes before going into gear if I try to take off quick. Any suggestions?
