Engine has been overheated and is making sounds 2000 nissan maxima?

I bought a 2000 nissan maxima that had been previously overheated and it makes a small knocking sound when i hit the throttle but ONLY when im applying gas. a few people have said it might be the heads, or the intake manifold. i just really want to get rid of this ANNOYING sound. can anybody help me out with some info ? ?

      If it overheated as you said, that’s probably why they sold the car. The engine is toast. I’d look into a good used engine and have it installed, be sure to get a warranty.

      sounds more like a crankshaft bearrring or a piston wrist pin.
