Australia Awaits Release of Nissan Gt-r

RyanThomas asked:

At the 2006 Tokyo Motor show, Nissan unveiled the concept version of the supercar Nissan GT-R. During the said event, the Japanese car manufacturer announced that the production version of the GT-R will be made available by the end of this year as a 2008 model year car. While the United States auto market will surely be graced by the presence of the GT-R, the Australian sector is still waiting whether the supercar will be released in the country or not.

Recent news from Nissan reported that the GT-R will be officially launched at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show. During the said event, the third largest Japanese car manufacturer will announce whether the GT-R will be released in the Land Down Under or not. Nissan Australia general manager Ross Booth said that he is hoping that the supercar will be released in the Australian auto market.

“I still have my hands up for the GT-R,” says Booth. “Hopefully, in the next few months we will get to know and put together a case where we can get the vehicle. I think it would be very good for our brand in Australia,” he added further.

Aside from the GT-R, the Australian auto market is also expecting to receive the entry of the new Nissan X-Trail, Micra, and the Dualis which is known also as the Nissan QASHQAI. “There will be a lot of interest in Australia for the GT-R, but it won’t detract from the local launches,” Booth says regarding the entry of the auto models in Australia. “There is so much demand for information about the GT-R that what I’d like to do, if we are going to bring it in, is give an indication of at least when,” he added.

The concept of the GT-R is dubbed as the GT-R Proto and is the direct descendant of the Nissan Skyline GT-R which has captured the attention of performance enthusiasts. The GT-R though will be a separate nameplate and its body style is unique compared to other Nissan vehicles. Its Nissan hood resembles that of a Bugatti Veyron which only makes the GT-R a sight to look at according to some performance car fans.

The specifications for the production GT-R is yet to be announced by Nissan although there are words going around the auto industry concerning the powerplant of the supercar. It seems that Nissan will be equipping the GT-R with a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with transmission choice between a six-speed manual and an automatic transmission. The estimated power of the engine is 482 horsepower and a “track” version which will have the capacity to produce 530 horsepower.

With the sheer power and good-looks of the Nissan GT-R, Booth is concerned of the price tag which will come with the GT-R. “We need to be a little careful of the Nissan brand with the fact that you don’t want to be selling cars at $200,000-plus,” said Booth. “I don’t think the GT-R will be up there, but the reality is that we haven’t got confirmation that we’re going to get it and we don’t know what the price or specifications will be,” he added.

RyanThomas asked:

The Nissan Motor Company, Ltd. is a car maker which is baed in Japan. It used to market its vehicles using the Datsun brand. At present, it is one of the rivals of the United States auto market’s Big Three.

Now, this Nissan tail light manufacturer has got updates that would be of interest for its followers and of interest of people following all developments in the auto industry. Two of the company’s recent updates include one negative and one positive. The negative is a recall while the positive is an honor.

Last Thursday, the company announced that it would be recalling 113,000 units of its minivans. However, these minivans are those that are solely sold in the Japan market. The company also did say that they are doing such because of a problem with the minivan’s exhaust pipes.

The minivan to be recalled is the Nissan Serena and the models that are affected by the recall are those which have been manufactured from April of 2005 up until August of 2006. Details about the recall and the announcement have been posted in the company’s native country’s Transport Ministry web site.

The web site did further inform readers that the Nissan Serena’s parts which have been welded were found out to have the risk of corrosion. And if this does happen, the pipe could fall off. The company also did mention that they have been able to note 46 cases and these were reported to the company already. However, the good side was that there were no accidents related to the exhaust pipe fall-off.

As per the positive piece of news, the Nissan Motor Company has been given accolades for a couple of its vehicles - the Nissan 350Z coupe and the Nissan X-TRAIL. The awards given to the vehicles were part of the Auto Express Used Car Honors.

For three years, the Nissan X-TRAIL has been an awardee in the Best Recreational 4×4 segment. As per the Nissan 350Z, this is the second time that it was awarded the Best in the Coupe segment.

The judges of the mentioned award giving body mentioned about the X-TRAIL, “It sill reigns supreme as the ultimate used SUV by combining decent on-road manners with genuine off-road capabilities.”

As per the Nissan 350Z, the judges were quite enthusiastic to mention, “Looks and performance count for plenty in the coupe category, which explains why the Nissan comes out on top. Few cars at any price handle as well as the 350Z, and the futuristic styling manages to tick all the right boxes, too.”

Nissan Taps New Suv Design for Young Urbanites

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009
nissan
Joe Thompson asked:

Imagine a black-and-gray camouflage-style pattern of rhinoceroses, skulls and dice incorporated in a sport utility vehicle. Captivating and exotic, isn’t it? This concept of an SUV, which is one of Ecko’s 2 concepts, will not be available in the industry though. Nonetheless, New York fashion designer and graffiti artist Marc Ecko made customized versions of Nissan SUVs with a more captivating look and price tag.

The 2 concept SUVs with Ecko’s exotic design were showcased in Nashville. However, they were already displayed at several auto events across the country after it debuted in New York last October. Ecko’s Pathfinder is given a custom black-and-gray paint that camouflages his signature rhino logo and skulls and dice meant to mirror toughness and the “gambles people take in life. The skull is today’s happy face,” said Ecko.

“I think our brand embodies a youthful energy, excitement,” Ecko further added. “We’re emblematic of what’s going on in popular culture. It was a good tidy fit (with Nissan) for sure. If these were ever to be brought to consumers, obviously we’d have to make some adaptations to make it more production-assembly friendly.”

The new rhythmic design trend of the automaker is applied to blend Nissan auto body parts of Pathfinder and Armada SUVs. It is expected to astound the auto industry in the near future. Critics in the industry are saying that Nissan is following the footsteps of auto giants like Ford and Subaru.

It can be recalled that advance auto parts Ford and Subaru auto parts new have been collaborated with apparel retailers like Eddie Bauer and L.L. Bean to deliver stunning customized vehicles. Nissan also resorted to the ongoing trend to capture young urbanites. These individuals settle for stylish, edgy and high-performance drive. “We’re trying to show urban consumers that Nissan thinks outside the box, the idea that design can come from outside the car world too,” said Terri Hines, a spokeswoman for Nissan.

Tom Libby, an automotive analyst with JD Power and Associates, said the average age of the Nissan buyer is 42, four years below the national average age over all brands. Nissan buyers are also younger than those of other major Japanese automakers Toyota and Honda. “They’re (Nissan) trying to link their product with a brand that appeals to a niche or consumer they want to appeal to,” Libby said. “It (Ecko design) might appeal to the younger buyer. That’s certainly something Nissan does well with and wants to continue doing well with.”

Nissan-renault Alliance to Increase Presence in India

Friday, June 5th, 2009
nissan
RyanThomas asked:

The alliance between Japanese Nissan and French Renault seems to be looking at a new growing market - India. With the growing auto market in the said Asian country, the partnership seems to have taken a step further than introducing the Logan in the Indian auto market. If everything goes as planned, Nissan and Renault will be developing light commercial vehicles for the Indian market as well as be part of the production of compact cars for the market.

“There is no doubt both alliance partners Nissan and Renault are very significant players in the LCV market not only because it is booming in India, but also because both Nissan and Renault have an entire line up of products in that area,” says Nissan-Renault Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn. It can be remembered that Nissan has faced a troublesome year in 2006 when it was overtaken by Honda as the second largest Japanese car company.

The declining sale for Nissan is the result of scarcity of models in their lineup. This has awakened the Japanese car manufacturer to develop and produce new models for the coming years. The announcement that the Alliance will be expanding their presence in India is evidence that they are solving their scarcity of models.

While the Alliance is on the verge of entering the light commercial vehicle market in India, Ghosn maintained that it is still early to be absolutely sure that they would indeed enter the said market. “The initial phase will focus on cars so we are not ready to talk about it yet,” says Ghosn. “There’s no point piling up plans without execution,” added the CEO. He also maintained that the time will come when they would be participating in the growing LCV market in India. “That doesn’t mean the day we think the time is right for LCV we will not go in for it. Because we will,” he further added.

Ghosn also announced that they are planning to team up with Indian car companies as they increase their presence in the country. Aside from engineering input from Indian partners, Nissan and Renault might also produce whole vehicles or particular parts like Nissan ball joints in factories in India.

The partnership’s aim to increase their presence in India is a good step for Nissan which is just recovering from yet another blow it suffered last year. In the United States, sales for Nissan are rising steadily for the past months. The company though would like to see sales figures rise even more. In connection to that and the fact that their fewer choices affected their sales negatively, Nissan announced that they will be coming out with 33 new models in three years time starting next year.

Nissan Pushes Diversity to Drive Sales

Monday, June 1st, 2009
nissan
Mike Bartley asked:

Diversity is such a novel word in Japan. But the Nissan Motor Co. is launching a drive to empower women and make diversity a pillar of its image.

The diversity drive arrives at a time when the Japanese automaker is experiencing slipping sales and its first annual profit fall in seven years. Currently, the automaker is striving to grab the global limelight from fast-rising Japanese rivals Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co.

Wooing women is unlikely to win praises in Japan. But Nissan’s onsite daycare, family leave of up to two years and flexible work schedules are helping draw more women and keeping them as well. Nissan, which is 44 percent owned by Renault SA of France, has also been spreading the word about diversity at universities and seminars to recruit women. And it is one clear way of sending a unique message as a cross-cultural, balanced automaker.

Diversity programs are fairly established at Detroit’s automakers, with women making up 27 percent of the management at the General Motors Corp. At Toyota, women comprise one percent of management, and 0.4 percent at Honda. Under the diversity drive, women in management increased by four percent from 1.6 percent in 2004 at Nissan. The automaker is expecting five percent gain by March 2008.

Women make up ten percent of management overall in Japan but tend to be underrepresented in manufacturing. In the United States, there is 42.5 percent management. “Things are definitely changing,” said Kumi Hatsukano, a manager for car body design at Nissan. “But what would be ideal is if we could stop talking about this topic of being a woman or a man altogether.”

When she joined the Japanese automaker in 1993, she had her share of run-ins with sexual harassment. Male workers gave her unwanted attention and asked personal questions about her love life, particularly when she was working late. Today, Hatsukano, 38, is obtaining some of the fruits of the diversity initiative.

In Japan, employers are required to give six weeks family leave before the due date and one year of child-care leave. But 67 percent of working women quit after giving birth to their first child, according to a government study.

Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn is determined to make diversity an exhortation. “We are creating a corporate culture committed to diversity,” he told shareholders recently, “where merit alone opens every door.”

Yukiko Yoshimaru, 47, joined Nissan two years ago, promotes the diversity effort led by Ghosn, saying powering women holds potential in the auto industry. Nissan research found women are involved in 60 percent of decision-making when buying a car.

Hiring women and supporting their careers add to Nissan’s competitive edge, she said. “If a woman wants to work, then people believe in you, you appreciate that and work hard. That sets off a positive cycle,” Yoshimaru added.

When Chiharu Ikahata, 26, was hired as the first woman on her assembly line in 1999, the women’s restroom was so old and dirty one had to be built at her request. Today, she is the plant manager and hopes to be a role model for women workers.

Adjustments to assembly lines for women, such as keeping the Nissan tie rod end and other auto parts clean of slick grease, make the job easier for all workers. “Male workers appreciate the changes my presence has brought,” Ikahata noted.

The growing number of Japanese women workers, car owners and purchasers has been critical in making Nissan appreciate the essence of female expertise to reach women buyers. “Identifying with people’s emotions - that’s empathy,” Ishii said. “In a way, that’s what being a woman is all about.”
