Nissan Service

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008
nissan
Howard Thomas asked:

How to save money on your next Nissan service

Nissan servicing is now much cheaper, for those in the know.

Thanks to European legislation, you no longer have to be tied to high Nissan service costs, dictated by your local dealer.

In October 2003 new European legislation affecting the motor industry came into force called “Block Exemption Regulation” 14002002 (BER), and this now means that you can book your next Nissan car service online and save up to 50% on what you might pay at your local Nissan dealer.

Before the law changed it was difficult to have new cars within their warranty period serviced outside a franchised dealer. If you wanted to shop around for the best prices on Nissan servicing, your hands were tied.

The change in the law now gives every car owner the freedom to service their car away from the main dealers, and still have their warranty protected.

Thousands of Nissan car owners have now taken advantage of their new right and reduced their Nissan serving costs, whilst benefiting from the convenience of booking with national car service providers such as Service A Car.

Service A Car is a leading online car servicing network that prides itself on the quality of its Nissan servicing, their customer service and transparent pricing. Because the company is not tied to any particular car manufacturer, they are able to service any make of vehicle and compete freely in the market, on a like-for-like.

Every vehicle is rigorously serviced according to the manufacturer’s servicing schedule, using genuine recommended parts fitted by qualified technicians. This means that every Nissan car service fulfils the warranty criteria and there is no compromise on the servicing standards of a main dealer.

Companies like Service A Car, who fulfil the warranty criteria when servicing your Nissan, are able to maintain your service book, just as main dealer can – thereby protecting your warranty and helping you to maximise the resale value of your Nissan car.

Of course, booking direct with a national car servicing network has its own advantages:

·         You no longer have to do all the running around. Service A Car collects your Nissan in the morning and delivers it back that afternoon, free of charge

·         You pay a fixed Nissan service price, which can be up to 50% below the price at the Nissan servicing desk of your local dealer

·         No additional work is carried out without your agreement, which means no nasty surprises when it comes to paying the bill

·         Trained Customer Advisers are on hand throughout the day to keep you informed of progress, and report back on problems you asked to be investigated as part of your Nissan service e.g. knocks and rattles

·         Your Nissan service includes a free wash and vacuum clean

·         You simply pay with your credit or debit card and your car is delivered back to your home or work address.

Our advice for saving money on Nissan car servicing is to contact a national car servicing network, who is not tied to any one particular car manufacturer, like Service A Car.

So, before you book your next Nissan service, why not ask your local dealer to tell you the cost of the service (plus parts, oil and any extras) and then compare it with a fixed price quote from a national servicing network, like Service A Car?

Happy motoring,

Howard.

Chairman Service A Car

Hilary6 asked:

I have a NIssan Murano as a courtesy car for the next few days. It has navigation, but I cannot figure out how to use it. If I touch the screen nothing happens and I can’t get it to the navigation menu. It just stays on radio. Does anyone have this vehicle or know how to use it?

New York Auto Show to Host Nissan Murano, Pathfinder, Quest

Thursday, September 18th, 2008
nissan
RyanThomas asked:

The largest motor show in the United States, the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) is just around the corner. The excitement of auto enthusiasts is building as to what cars will be unveiled at the show. Of course, there will be concept vehicles showcased at the motor show.

Aside from concept vehicles, a motor show is also a venue for car makers to showcase their production cars. The New York International Auto Show is no exception since car makers already announced what they will be strutting at the event. Nissan recently announced that they will be unveiling the upgraded versions of their Murano, Pathfinder, and Quest models. These vehicles are part of Nissan’s exhibit at the event and are aimed to further increase the popularity of the Nissan brand among Americans.

The Nissan Murano, dubbed as the “Maxima of SUVs”, is a crossover sport utility vehicle first introduced in 2003. It was the top-of-the-line SUV for the Japanese brand until the introduction of the Nissan Armada. The Murano which will be showcased at the New York Auto Show combines the versatility of a sport utility vehicle with the handling performance of a sedan.

The new Murano will be an all-wheel drive vehicle which makes it an all-weather vehicle. With the drive wheel configuration, the vehicle supplies traction to all of its wheels making it maneuverable in any road condition. The power supplied to its wheels comes from a 3.5 liter direct overhead cam V6 engine boasting of 245 horsepower and 246 lb-ft of torque. Fuel efficiency-wise, the Nissan Murano offers a continuously variable transmission - Nissan’s Xtronic CVT as it is called. This efficiently transfers power from the engine to the wheels with less waste so that fuel consumption is reduced.

Another Nissan model that will grace the New York Auto Show is the Nissan Pathfinder. The 2008 Pathfinder is designed to look as muscular as its predecessors. Its three-row seating gives the Pathfinder versatility of the SUV that its is. Off-road driving ability is also phenomenal. While the new version of the Pathfinder is built on a longer wheelbase, the short front and rear overhangs gives it the maneuverability that it needs to navigate through city streets or off the road.

The increased wheelbase gives the interior of the SUV good legroom and headspace for its occupants. Powering the Pathfinder is the 4.0-liter version of the brand’s award-winning Nissan VQ-Series V6 engine. The 4.0-liter double overhead cam V6 is proven to produce 270 horsepower and 291 lb-ft of torque. The ratio of horsepower and torque is the highest among its competitor in the mid-size SUV market.

Another Nissan vehicle upgraded for the 2008 model year which will be showcased at the New York Auto Show is the Nissan Quest. This minivan first introduced in 1993 is still setting standards in its class. The Nissan Quest is designed to have that sociable looks common on minivans, from its Nissan mirrors to its side windows, the Quest looks every bit like a family car that it is. The power of the Quest comes from a 3.5 liter double overhead cam 24-valve V6 engine capable of producing 240 horsepower and 242 lb-ft of torque.

Diesel Titan Being Developed by Nissan

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008
nissan
RyanThomas asked:

While the auto market is welcoming the introduction of 2008 mode year vehicles, Nissan is reported to be working on a 2009 model year version of the full-size pickup Nissan Titan. According to Japanese publication Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, Nissan is developing a diesel version of the Titan which will be introduced in the United States auto market for the 2009 model year.

According to the report, Nissan is partnering with truck and engine manufacturer Navistar International Corp. to bring a diesel-powered Titan in the North American market. Navistar is also the company which provided Ford with the diesel engines for their Super Duty trucks until the relationship soured.

Currently, Nissan is not offering any diesel-powered vehicle in the United States. One reason for this maybe is caution. The company, of course, knows that diesel engines have left a bitter taste in the tongue of American car buyers. It was in the 1980s that diesel engines made an appearance in the country. The noisy engine though did not endear itself to Americans. Aside from the noisy operation, diesel engines of old are also known for the black soot that they produce.

The new generation of diesel engines from Navistar though is more environment-friendly than its predecessors. It uses emission filter technologies which reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. Not only that, thanks to advanced engine acoustics technology, new generation diesel engines produces less noise which can be even compared to a gasoline engine.

After the report though, a Nissan spokesperson said that the company cannot comment on future product development. John Schilling, speaking for Nissan, has this to say: “We haven’t announced anything about a diesel engine for the Titan. This news is speculation at this point, but we are continuing to study this technology for potential future use. The only vehicle we’ve said that will have a diesel engine is the Maxima in 2010.”

This statement though did not dispel speculations surrounding the development of a Nissan radiator hose-equipped Titan Diesel. One reason pointed out why it makes sense that Nissan will be coming up with a diesel truck is the skyrocketing price of gasoline. Diesel is cheaper than gasoline therefore it would be an obvious choice for light truck buyers to purchase a diesel-engined pickup truck.

The Titan pickup truck was introduced by the Japanese automaker in 2004. The Titan is the only full-size pickup truck in the auto manufacturer’s lineup. It was introduced in the United States auto market in the hope that it will carve a niche in the profitable segment in the US auto market. Unfortunately though, Americans tend to go for American light trucks with proven track record.

Last month, Nissan reported that sales of the Titan went down by 18 percent when they only sold 4,899 units of the Titan. For the first five months of the year, Nissan saw a declining sale for the Titan. So far, Nissan has sold 28,668 units of the Titan from January through May. This is 15 percent lower than Nissan Titan sale for the first five months of 2006.

The 2008 model year version of the Titan went on sale in the country in April. Aside from Ford’s F-Series and General Motors’ Chevrolet Silverado, the Titan is facing competition from the redesigned Tundra, Toyota’s “most important product launch to date”.

Nissan’s CEO Bets ‘credibility’ on Raising Profit

Monday, September 8th, 2008
nissan
RyanThomas asked:

The Nissan Motor Co. Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn, who rescued the automaker from near bankruptcy seven years ago, said that his credibility is on the line after missing last year’s earnings goals.

According to the average of 16 analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg, Nissan’s profit probably plunged 33 percent in the three months ended March 31. Earnings in the year-ago period were bolstered by a 17 billion yen one-time gain from selling the Nissan Diesel Motor Co. shares to Volvo AB. Sales probably increased 31 percent to a record 3.46 trillion yen, the survey said.

In February, the Japanese automaker slashed its net income estimate for the year ended last March to 460 billion yen ($3.9 billion) from 523 billion yen. It was the first time the automaker missed its target. Additionally, the automaker may miss a 3.73 million-vehicle global sales forecast for the year.

“It’s important to maintain credibility,” said Ghosn in an interview on Feb. 2. “We have made forecasts and we have met them in the past. We missed it this time and we don’t like it.” Ghosn, 53, intends to regain investors’ confidence when he unveils the carmaker’s earnings tomorrow. In the said announcement, he also will tackle what he called a “crisis” at Tokyo-based Nissan. The company in February scaled back its full-year profit forecast by 12 percent and said it may not meet its target of selling 4.2 million vehicles in the year ending March 2009.

“He took his eyes off the ball,” said Edwin Merner, who oversees $1 billion as the president of Atlantis Investment Research Corp. in Tokyo. “Sales in the U.S. have been disappointing until recently and in Japan sales are in a shambles.”

The shares of the Japanese automaker declined by 2.7 percent to 1,195 yen as of 12:32 p.m. in Tokyo, extending the fall for 2007 to 17 percent. Shares of the Toyota Motor Corp. dropped by two percent to 7,220 yen and the Honda Motor Co. shares dived by 1.7 percent to 4,000 yen. The shares fell after the confidence of purchasers plunged in the United States. Japanese automakers derive as much as 70 percent of their operating profit in the country.

From April, Ghosn gave up daily oversight of North American operations. The change is giving Ghosn, who is managing both Nissan and Renault SA, more time to concentrate on improving the performance of the two automakers. Renault owns 44.3 percent of Nissan. Ghosn is set to announce a plan today to boost the Nissan’s earnings. Nissan said it will offer incentives to workers in Japan to save costs, the first time in eight years it has offered early retirements. Meanwhile, Nissan spokeswoman Pauline Kee declined to comment on the analysts’ estimates or on Ghosn’s plan.

Nissan is betting on 11 new or redesigned vehicles. The said product lines, equipped with sophisticated auto parts like Nissan air mass meter, engines, brakes, and rotors, will be introduced worldwide in the year starting April 1, including the Rogue crossover vehicle as Ghosn said last month.

It can be recalled that the automaker unveiled only one new model globally in the first half ended on Sept. 30. Ghosn has said the automaker must improve its planning to bring out new models on a more regular basis. “If we don’t learn from the mistakes we’ve made, we will make more mistakes,” Ghosn said. “We have to learn.”

Nissan will probably focus on cutting costs in purchasing, making better use of production capacity and strengthening sales and marketing efforts, especially in Japan and the U.S., said analysts including Koji Endo at Credit Suisse Group in Tokyo.

In the year ended March 31, “Nissan gained from the weaker yen”, said Koichi Takatsuka, who oversees $1 billion at UAM Japan Inc. in Tokyo. In February, the automaker based its earnings forecasts on an exchange rate of 120 yen to the dollar and 150 yen to the euro for the three months ended in March.

Nissan will report earnings at 3:20 p.m. today. Honda reported at 3 p.m. yesterday, followed by Toyota at 3 p.m. on May 9.

Nissan to Unveil New Livina Variant

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

RyanThomas asked:

The Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., earlier announced its intention to unveil a second variant from its new family of global cars. The unveiling of the new car will happen at the Auto Shanghai 2007. The auto show is scheduled to happen from April 22 up until the 28th.

The new Livina, which will be introduced in China in late April, is expected to boost the standing of the automaker in the territory. The vehicle will go on sale in China in late April. After that, it will be gradually offered to other territories around the globe.

“In July 2006, Nissan announced plans to introduce a series of new cars for our key global markets, with a sales forecast of 200,000 units per year. This new family of global cars represents a substantial investment for Nissan,” said Nissan’s executive vice president Carlos Tavares. “We expect the Livina, our second new model in this family, to make a significant contribution to our business globally as it is expected to become a high-volume model,” he continued.

The automaker has introduced the first variant of the vehicle in July last year. The first Livina is a compact seven-seat minivan powered by the Nissan MR18DE engine. It is built by Nissan Motors in partnership with Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company, the automaker’s Chinese affiliate. The vehicle was displayed at the Guangzhou International Motor Show. It went on sale in December 2006.

According to the automaker, Livina Geniss is the first in a line of new global vehicles, and is the first Nissan vehicle to debut in China before being launched in other countries. The new Livina which has been built on a shared Renault-Nissan Alliance platform is inspired by some of features of its predecessor. Quality auto parts like Nissan oil filters, engines, radiators, and wheels are just some of the features that the Livina flaunt.

Nissan’s new pride, which is powered by a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with the choice of four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmissions, is based on the product concept of ‘active and high quality.’ The new Livina was especially engineered to offer sophisticated of level of auto dynamics, ergonomics, agility, and performance. It is also given more space to accommodate more passengers and luggage compared to other vehicle in its class. The exterior of the Livina features a tastefully bold and elegant styling mated to a clean, refined and well-equipped interior.

Like the other variants in Nissan’s family of global cars, the Livina has been conceptualized, designed, assembled and built at the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi, Japan.
