What is the proper oil to use in a 2003 Nissan Maxima?

MS.B asked:

I’m hearing a noise in my car. Someone told me I have water in my tank. Checked it out. No water. Someone told me I needed spark plugs or maybe its the oil I’m using. I always go to the Nissan Dealership to get oil changes. I just called them and asked them what type of oil are they using. They told me regular oil 530. Its time for me to get an oil change at this point (I hit 3000 miles) and I noticed this morning driving to work that I didnt hear the sound as much. Should I be using synthetic oil or what? How do you know which oil is better?

Nissan’s Quest for Cleaner Cars

Sunday, July 27th, 2008
nissan
RyanThomas asked:

Nissan, the third biggest Japanese car manufacturer, is in danger of losing ground against Toyota and Honda. Experts in the industry cite Nissan’s lack of initiative towards developing cleaner cars which is currently the hottest commodity in the auto industry. To become a formidable foe in the U.S. auto market, Nissan needs to produce more green cars for their consumers.

It was not so long ago when Nissan is seen as the car technology leader in Japan, even better than Toyota and Honda in that department. Recently though Nissan seems to be unable to cope with Toyota and Honda’s advancement in car technology.

Toyota’s Prius is leading the hybrid technology revolution while Honda has the first fuel cell approved by the U.S. in the country. Last year, the company’s lack of green cars in their lineup is seen as one of the reason for their five percent sales reduction. It is only in recent months that Nissan seems to be doing well in the U.S. market.

Comparing Nissan to juggernaut Toyota, James Rubenstein, a professor at the Miami University, has this to say: “Toyota has created a green image for itself through aggressive marketing of hybrid vehicles. Nissan has not done this - it doesn’t have an innovation-oriented image. At the moment, Nissan is selling cars that try to look a bit different.”

The company admits that their image is not as good looking as that of Toyota and Honda. But Nissan affirms that they are expecting consumers to consider performance above perception and, in that case, they are almost at par with Toyota and Honda. In an interview with Reuters, Carlos Tavares, Nissan’s Executive Vice President for Product Planning and Corporate strategy expressed his opinion on consumers’ choice. “My guess is that three, five, 10 years from now, people will look at the actual figures for mileage rather than the technology behind it,” says Tavares. “As long as we’re on the shortlist in this regard, we can compete for customers as they make their final decision based on emotional values such as driving pleasure, craftsmanship and user-friendliness,” he added.

Nissan is already taking steps towards producing cleaner vehicles with better fuel efficiency. Last December, Nissan announced its “Nissan Green Program 2010”. Under the said program, Nissan aims to sell a million vehicles equipped with continuously variable transmission which cuts down fuel consumption this year. The said target, when attained, will provide carbon dioxide emission reduction that is approximately equal to the effect of 200,000 hybrid vehicles. The CVT is one of the latest fuel-saving technologies in the auto industry and perfectly works well with the various vehicle components like Nissan strut mount.

Japanese Used Car Exporters Recommend Importing Nissan X-trail to Russia

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Michael Koh asked:

With the advent of the Russian Federation after the fall of the USSR, a big market for automakers has been born. It provides a very big opportunity for various car makers from all over the world. The Russian Market has been a growing market for Japanese carmakers and especially for Nissan. The Nissan brand is one of the five most imported cars in the Russian Federation. However especially the success of SUV’s have been one of the major reasons why Nissan X – trail has become one of the most selling cars in the Russian Federation.

Especially in the last five years, SUV vehicles have become quite popular with the Russian elite. SUV type cars are especially suited to the road conditions and weather conditions in Russia. With the harsh winter conditions all over Russia, Luxury vehicle SUV’s like Nissan X – trail will continue to be the leading choice vehicles in the Russian Market.

It has a good carrying capacity, which makes it ideal for traditionally large Russian families. Nissan X - TRail provides the best elegance possible in a used imported car. However the name Nissan is also responsible for the popularity of X – Trail in the imported used car market in the Russian Federation. Nissan has sold over 110 thousand cars in the year 2007 and this alone shows the interest the Russian public has on Nissan cars. Thus this success has caused Nissan to invest in the Russian federation with a new car plant which will begin its operation in the year 2009. In fact, this plant will also manufacture brand new Nissan X – Trail starting in the year 2009.

In any case, Nissan X – Trail continues to be leading choice in used imported cars in to Russia. In addition, the fact that the spare parts are found easily in the Russian market also creates an advantage for the Nissan X – Trail. Compared to other luxury style SUV’s; Nissan X-Trail provides a more family like interior for the Russian market. Thus for many years to come, X – Trail will continue to lead the imported used car market in Russia.

Japanese used car has been proactively recommending such Nissan SUV for export as it proves to be one of the more reliable and durable used Japanese car in Russia.

Nissan Goes for the Elderly

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008
nissan
Tom Bailey asked:

Just this week, the largest symposium on electric vehicles in the world was launched and opened in Japan’s Yokohama area. And this one is actually the 22nd International battery, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exposition. And during such a coveted symposium, auto manufacturer Nissan went out of its way to show a kind of vehicle that was created with the elderly in mind.

This special vehicle is the Nissan Micro UV and it was shown off at the mentioned electric vehicles symposium along with the Nissan Hypermini. The Nissan Hypermini is just a small vehicle that can run up to 100 kilometers per hour. But this article is not about it.

Anyhow, the Nissan Micro UV was actually developed under the Nissan tutelage by the company’s subsidiary, the Autech. Along with that, there was also some sponsorship that went into the creation of the vehicle from the New Energy and Industry Technology Development Organization, or NEDO. The NEDO, if you did not know, is actually a group that was organized and created by the Japanese government back in the year 1980 so as to develop technologies that would be alternative sources of energy. And the Nissan Micro UV was the product of the team work and coordination between all these groups and businesses.

Nissan did claim that the creation of the Nissan Micro UV was mainly targeted towards the elderly drivers of its native land, Japan. After all, there is a huge increase of elderly in the mentioned area. And the Nissan Micro UV, outfitted in all its Nissan auto parts glory, would be now able to help out the elderly ones. In fact, the vehicle has been fitted with the right kind of active interface technology that would greatly help out elderly drivers. After all, the elderly really does have motor abilities that are failing, has a slow response time, and impaired driving capabilities at the very worst.

With such a kind of vehicle on the streets, elderly people would still be able to drive around their place without having to worry much about their safety. After all, Nissan sure did design the Nissan Micro UV to be the best kind of driving companion there would be in the industry.
