Nissan to Source More Parts From India, China

RyanThomas asked:

The Nissan Motor Co., the third largest automaker in Japan, will raise global auto parts purchases from low-cost countries such as China and India to as much as 24 percent of the total, from 14 percent after profits fell for the first time in seven years last year, said Carlos Ghosn - Nissan’s CEO.

“Frankly, we have no choice… If you don’t transfer part of your supply to extremely competitive countries, then there is no way you are going to be competitive in the market,” Ghosn said last Sunday. Recently the company had reported a decrease in profits, for the first time since its record loss in 2000.

Nissan is not the only automaker to entertain such a decision. Detroit-based General Motors Corp. also announced their plans to source more parts from India. GM earlier announced its plan to acquire Indian automobile parts worth $1 billion a year within four or five years, said Nick Reilly, the company’s president in charge of the Asia Pacific region. Auto parts cost half as much in India as in Europe, he added.

Saving on the company’s biggest expense may help Nissan achieve its profit goals this year after net income dived and the Honda Motor Co. took over Japan’s second largest automaker spot. According to McKinsey & Co., exports of Indian-made parts may increase almost six fold to $40 billion by 2015 from about $6.7 billion in 2003 because of rising demand.

Tokyo-based Nissan expects net income will increase to 480 billion yen or $3.9 billion in the 12 months ended 31 March, from 460.8 billion yen in 2006. Sales are expected to decrease 1.6 percent to 10.3 trillion yen. The Japanese automaker expects to sell 3.7 million vehicles this business year.

According to Bloomberg data, “Nissan’s operating margin of 7.42 percent is lower than Honda’s at 7.68 percent and Toyota Motor Corp.’s at 9.35 percent. Ghosn added, “When you reduce your purchasing cost, sourcing is one of the tools.”

Shares of Nissan, 44.3 percent owned by German Renault SA, plummeted 0.8 percent to 1,319 yen on Friday in Tokyo. Nissan missed earnings and sales forecasts last year because of a lack of new models in the US and Japan, its two biggest markets. The automaker also delayed a goal of selling 4.2 million vehicles worldwide by one year, to the 12 months ending March 2010.

The automaker did not introduce any Nissan-brand vehicles for 15 months and went through 18 months without any new Infiniti-brand models in the US, its most profitable market. Now, Nissan starters and other parts are expected to cost less.

Ghosn said that Nissan will consider introducing a car priced as low as $3,000 depending on the success of similar low-cost models planned by companies including Tata Motors Ltd. The Indian automaker intends to launch a car priced as low as Rs one lakh or $2,500 in 2008. The new car will be the nation’s cheapest automobile. “If this represents an opportunity, then there is no doubt that we will be coming with a product like this in the future,” Ghosn noted.

Separately, Nissan also announced production, sales and export results for May 2007. According to the report, the global production of the automaker increased 6.9 percent year-on-year to 262,572 units.

Nissan sales in the US grew 7.4 percent year-on-year to 93,062 units, boosted by increased sales of the new Altima, Sentra, Versa and the Infiniti G35. In Europe, the new Qashqai boosted Nissan sales to a total of 50,083 units, exceeding the previous year’s results by 3.6 percent. Nissan’s exports decreased 30.8 percent to 28,891 units, compared to the same month in the year prior.

Nissan’s Only Hybrid Offering

Friday, February 22nd, 2008
nissan
RyanThomas asked:

In the past, Nissan’s Chief Executive Officer and savior Carlos Ghosn has been very vocal about his thoughts concerning hybrid vehicles. According to him, hybrid vehicles are not yet practical when Toyota and Honda came up with hybrid cars. The cost of production of these cars is the reason pointed out by Ghosn why hybrids are not yet practical in the past years.

Recently though, it seems that Ghosn has decided that the time is right for a hybrid car to join their lineup. The Nissan Altima hybrid is the company’s first outing in the hybrid vehicle market. While it seems that Nissan has changed its mind concerning the production of hybrid vehicles, one should consider that Nissan is still somewhat conservative about the sale of the Altima Hybrid. This is because Nissan only offers the Altima Hybrid to the eight states with the toughest emission standards. These states are California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The Altima Hybrid though is not completely a Nissan even if its components are manufactured where Nissan Maxima parts are being manufactured. This is because the powertrain used by the Altima Hybrid is from Toyota - that one known as the Hybrid Synergy Drive. Nissan’s use of the said technology is made possible by a licensing agreement with Toyota.

The third largest Japanese car manufacturer though is planning to introduce a hybrid vehicle of its own before the turn of the century. The production of the said vehicle is part of the Nissan Green Program 2010. The environmentally-aware program is Nissan’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emission by their vehicles and their facilities. Recently, the company installed solar panels in their assembly facility in Barcelona, Spain.

For now though, the only hybrid in Nissan’s lineup is the Altima Hybrid and it has a starting price of $24,400. The hybrid version of the Altima is estimated to cost $3,500 more than the conventional Altima. The hybrid version though qualifies for a $2,350 tax credit. With that tax incentive scheme, Altima Hybrid owners are expected to get back their initial investment within two years in fuel savings.

The Altima Hybrid’s powertrain can produce as much as 198 horsepower. Its internal combustion engine is a 2.5-liter direct overhead camshaft 16-valve 4-cylinder engine. This engine produces the 158 hp of the total power output of the power train. Providing the additional hp to the powertrain is a permanent magnetic AC synchronous electric motor.

Since it is a hybrid, it needs an efficient high-power output battery pack. Nissan chose a sealed nickel-metal hydride or Ni-MH battery which produces the additional 40 horsepower. With the engine and the electric motor as well as emissions filtering devices, Nissan managed to get an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emission Vehicle classification for the Altima Hybrid.

As far as ride comfort is concerned, the Altima Hybrid sports an independent sub frame-mounted strut type suspension for its front end. For the rear of the car, Nissan equipped it with a multi-link independent suspension setting. Stabilizer bars are also part of the Nissan Altima Hybrid’s suspension assembly as well as a vehicle speed-sensitive electric steering.

Nissan Pathfinder Bags “best Family Suv” Award

Friday, February 22nd, 2008
nissan
Lauren Woods asked:

Last year was filed with woes for the Japanese car brand Nissan for that year, 2006, Honda overtook them to become the second largest Japanese car manufacturer. Furthermore, last year sales for Nissan was a disappointment - the first time that Nissan suffered setbacks in terms of sales during Ghosn’s stint as the company’s president and chief executive officer.

But while there is plenty of bad news for the company, a silver lining came in the winning of the Nissan Pathfinder as the “Best Family SUV” in the Middle East. The distinction was given to the Nissan model by the Pan Arab publication Automobile Magazine.

The award is given to the Nissan Pathfinder after a very close deliberation among the members of the magazine’s editorial team. Aside from the “Best Family SUV” award, the Automobile Magazine also handed out awards for other categories such as the “Best Small Car” and the “Best Sports Car”. One of the reasons for the distinction is the Pathfinder’s amazing off-road driving capabilities. Some of the features integrated into the Nissan Pathfinder like the Hill Descent Control and the Hill Start Assist has already gained the attention of off-road driving enthusiasts and also no doubt the editorial board members who picked the winner for the category.

The Hill Descent Control is reliant on the onboard computer which guides the large Pathfinder vehicle in climbing down a hill. This allows the driver to concentrate on the steering. Nissan stated that the secret to the perfect use of the Hill Descent Control is to refrain from braking and just let the advanced safety feature do its job. Auto journalists who have tried the Nissan Pathfinder found out that the Hill Descent Control indeed guides the Pathfinder gently down a hill.

The Pathfinder’s 4.0-liter engine produces 291 horsepower and this enables the Pathfinder to nimbly ascend hills. The power coming from this relatively large engine can be enhanced further with the use of an aftermarket Nissan cold air intake system which allows cooler air to circulate inside the engine’s intake manifold and eventually into the combustion chamber.

Responding to the citation, Adel Faidi, the Assistant Manager for Corporate Communications at Nissan Middle East, has this to say: “Winning this award is a sensational achievement and just reinforces the pride that everyone in Nissan feels with delivering great vehicles. Nissan is committed to bringing automotive innovation and promoting the development of the auto industry. Since its introduction the new Nissan Pathfinder has successfully set a new standard in the family SUV segment and we are strongly confident that it will further excite the market and the drivers who want to own an SUV with high value-for-money, great road presence and superior comfort.”

The Nissan Pathfinder is only one of Nissan’s large vehicles available in the Middle East. Joining the Pathfinder in Nissan’s lineup are the Armada, the Patrol, the X-Trail, and the Murano.

Experience Best Nissan Parts From the Available Nissan Auto Parts From Prestige Motorsport P/l:

Thursday, February 7th, 2008
nissan
Vikram Kumar asked:

Nissan is one of the most respected names in all the imported brands available with Prestige Motorsport P/L. The success of Nissan can be estimated from the fact that the auto parts of this brand have been shopped by the people online through out 24 hours. A large variety available in Nissan is one of the reasons why people give more precedence to it. In successful ranking of Prestige Motorsport the importation of Nissan has a very big hand.

No one can deny the fact that, today the Nissan parts are believed to be the symbol of guarantee. They can conveniently be purchased via online from prestige Motorsport’s official web site. The great advantage of purchasing Nissan auto parts online is that there will be no role of any intermediate broker in the whole transaction. You can directly contact and deal with the company within a short period of time. Ordered products are supplied immediately through the warehouses that are available in all the parts of the country. Car parts and accessories are supplied from the ware house that is situated at the shortest distance from the ordered site. If you import the Nissan brand and Nissan parts from the Prestige Motorsport P/L then you can have sufficient discount on the ordered consignment. You can compare the price from anywhere but you will never get Nissan auto parts along with the vehicle importation at such an affordable price as offered by Prestige Motorsport.

With the Prestige Motorsport P/L, you can easily locate Nissan parts along with the most demandable models available with this brand.  Some of the models of Nissan that are available with Prestige include Nissan Skyline V35 (2003), Nissan Skyline PV35 (2005), Nissan Skyline V35 (2002), Nissan Skyline V35 (2001), and Nissan Skyline R34. Here, you can receive most of the Nissan auto parts at a lower rate with a vast range in comparison to the parts available with Mitsubishi models like Mitsubishi Legnum and Mitsubishi lancer. For getting such a deal it is quite difficult to find any other place.

If you are going to order Nissan parts with the model that you are going to import from outside then it is important to understand why dealing with prestige can be highly fruitful to you. Some of the Nissan auto parts that you can easily receive with the available motorcar stock includes Nissan alternator, Air filter, Nissan axle, Nissan ball joints, Nissan brake booster, Nissan brake caliper, Nissan brake rotors, Nissan brake pads, Nissan CV boots, Nissan clutch disc, Control arm, Nissan distributor cap, Nissan fan clutch, Engine parts, Nissan distributor rotor, Nissan fuel injectors, Nissan fuel filter, Nissan fuel pressure regulator, Nissan heater core, Nissan ignition coil, Oxygen sensor, Nissan oil filter,  Nissan pressure plate, Power steering pump, Nissan radiator, Nissan spark plugs and starter, Nissan thermostat, timing belt, Nissan tie rods, Nissan transmission mount, Water pump, Nissan valve cover gasket, Nissan window motor and Nissan wheel bearing.

This mostly completes all the car parts and accessories. The Nissan parts available here include both common and rare accessories. If you are importing vehicle from outside then some of the parts can be difficult for you to find out again. If you go for the wide range of Nissan auto parts available with Prestige Motorsport P/L then you can save your both time and money and can also prevent crises in future.
